Our Workshop
As a six hour interactive presentation, Living the New Normal encompasses the full mind body experience of a cancer diagnosis. Marie Ritz, LCSW addresses the Psycho-social concerns, offering her expertise in helping us to access emotions while explaining the reasons behind our feelings and providing solutions for comforting them. Eileen Zegar add to this by presenting an Eastern understanding of the relationship between emotions and the body, nutritional concerns, and tools for relaxation.
You will learn mindfulness training that includes meditation, yogic breathing exercises, and self help acupressure techniques.
The nutritional component is based on an anti-cancer diet, distilling research from some of the leading authorities in the field, while integrating Chinese nutrition.
You will be exposed to an ancient understanding of emotions and how they appear in the body, based on Chinese medical theory. We will practice cultivating the energies that fuel our being and quiet our mind.
We will begin examining our emotions by using a series of interactive exercises. In doing this we will begin to consider the psychological toll of having cancer.
Tools and skill-sets needed for coping with life changes are taught. Recognizing cognitive distortions, self-advocacy, and reexamining relationships are included in this training.
Finally, a presentation of acceptance, gratitude and self compassion provides a bases for creating a fulfilling and active life.
